Far too often in today’s world, people and businesses face an increasingly complicated legal system that appears to make even the simplest problems impossible to solve. Tim helped found GBSR Attorneys with the purpose of making the legal system work for every person and business, no matter its size, their station in life, or the legal problem faced.
Tim graduated from Virginia Tech at the top of his class, receiving his undergraduate degree with honors. Tim went on to receive his law degree from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA and began practicing law in 1995.
In his early career, Tim was a partner in a large Northern Virginia law firm where, in addition to having a private practice, he served as a Commissioner in Chancery, Motions Conciliator, and Neutral Case Evaluator for the 19th Judicial District. In 2003, Tim felt he could better serve the people and businesses in his community by leaving the lofty halls of “big firm” practice. Tim chose to return to beautiful Southwest Virginia and open his own law practice.
With GBSR Attorneys, Tim focuses a large portion of his practice in Family Law, including divorce, child custody and visitation, child and spousal support, and property distribution. Just a few short years after returning to Southwest Virginia, Tim became one of the leading family law attorneys in the region. In recognition of his contributions to this area of the law, in 2009 Tim was selected by his peers as one of the top attorneys in the Roanoke Valley in the field of Juvenile Law. Also, starting in 2012, Tim was selected as a "SuperLawyer" in the field of Family Law.
More important to Tim, however, is his desire to help his clients navigate our complicated legal system to achieve positive results. Tim, with the help of the other members of the team at GBSR Attorneys, also represents clients in personal injury cases, contract disputes, and other types of civil and criminal litigation. While Tim certainly understands the importance of settling cases when possible he has extensive experience litigating at all levels of the Virginia Court system.
Tim is the past President of the Franklin County Bar Association, is a member of the Ted Dalton Inn of Court, is a lecturer for continuing legal education classes, and is also actively involved in the community. For example, Tim has served on the Board of Directors of such organizations as United Way, Habitat for Humanity, Helping Hands and the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce.
